We are going on the Jewel on March 2. How is this ship and what should I expect? The ports are Key West, Cozumel, Costa maya, and Belize. We are also taking the shuttle from Orlando to Port Everglades. Has anyone done this ? All input would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hello, laur623! If you haven't been welcomed yet, welcome to cruise chat!! I have been on that itinerary many times and to those ports even more. Many people will weigh in with info about the ports. My concern is the shuttle from Orlando to Port Everglades. Is there anyway that you can change you air reservations to go to FLL instead?? Another option would be to consider Spirit airlines. You can fly from MCO to FLL on Spirit for $48 per person one way.(Heck, you can fly in their "big front seat" for $99 per person) The flight takes off at 8:30 am and arrives at 9:32 am. You can fly at this time and price on March 1 or March 2. The cruise terminal is less than three miles from FLL. I just hate to see people cooped up on a shuttle for 4-5 hrs.
Hi laur623, you can expect a wonderful experience once you are on board. I agree with drlivingston, that's a pretty long ride in a bus, but it may be included in the package you purchased. If you like key lime pie, visit the Blond Giraffe in Key West-absolutely yummy. Cozumel is a great place for snorkeling, Xel-ha is great for water sports, Chankanaab Park, Tulum, Fat Tuesdays has great margaritas, there's a ton to do there. Costa Maya-beach day. Belize-either snorkeling or cave tubing. Have a wonderful time!
I'm on the exact same ship and itinerary on Dec. 09, 2007 and I can't wait. I am flying into FLL the day before so that we are close to the port and staying at the Bahia Mar Resort. We have chosen to do the ghosts and legends tour in key West along with a couple of museums, in Costa Maya we are horse back riding and on the beach snorkeling, in Cozumel we are clear Kayaking and snorkeling and in Belize we are Zip Lining and Cave tubing. I just did a cruise this past January on the Radiance of the seas (sister ship) and I absolutely loved it, not too big and not too small. Absolutely beautiful. You will love this cruise. I know I am going to. DH first cruise ever so I am really looking forward to it. Have a great time.
Yes, the Jewel is one of the ships that I am "thinking" of taking in March. Hopefully those that are taking it in the future will enjoy/like it, to give a good report.
Me and my wife will be going on the Jewel on Dec. 1st, but we will be taking the Eastern Caribbean cruise and we have heard so many good things about the ship we are very excited. I hope you have a good time and I'll try and let everyone know how our cruise went!!!!
