Ok I have to admit that I am a bit frugle when it comes to the cost of drinks on board. I like my cocktail and would really prefer to bring it on board with me carefully stowed in a bag for just that reason. I have noticed that RCL is getting very very strict on this practice and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this. The thought of spending hundreds when I could spend less is appealing.
Its not just RCI, but all the major cruise lines have really cracked the whip on bringing booze aboard. In fact, many have even banned wine although that seems to be hit or miss. Of course you could go on some of the luxury lines such as Silversea or Seabourn where all the booze you can drink is included in the price. The only problem is that price is generally about $1000 per person/day...but you can get sales where its "only" $600 per person/day. But seriously, as my wife points out, we are paying less for cruises today than we did for similar cruises 25 years ago. So why complain.
Smuggling alcohol on board can be risky, If they catch you they can refuse your embarkation without a refund. There has been much chat about this on other boards as well. Some people have had no trouble getting booze on board and others have had it confiscated. If you want to watch your pennies try going for the drink of the day. It is generaly about $4.95 (without the souvenir glass) They allways post it in the compas so you know what it will be the night before.

When we came back from ports of call, some people in front of us were trying to bring liquor on board they bought...big NO NO!! It was immediately confiscated
As I understand it, liquor you are caught bringing on board will be held until the end of the cruise. Liquor bought duty free on board the same. It isn't really "confiscated".
It probably isn't worth the risk of confiscation to smuggle illegal booze on board. Unless you are in a real financial squeeze, relax and order what you want. It's vacation! My husband lost his job 2 weeks before we went on a cruise earlier this year. We barely met the median income for our state before he lost his job. Needless to say we had to watch every penny on the cruise. We like cocktails, but still had an absolutely wonderful time with fewer libations. So either way, enjoy your vacation and don't worry so much about the price of drinks if you don't have to. Have a great trip!
A bottle of wine, and a bottle of liquor seem reasonable, mine is hidden within my many personal hygiene products, never a problem.

I believe if you try to smuggle it on board at the beginning of your cruise, it's confiscated. If you buy in at a port, or on the ship, it's returned to you at the end of the cruise. I never tried to smuggle booze on board, so I don't know for sure.
Wouldn't it be a great gesture on the part of RCCL if they gave us one free drink a day to offset the fuel issue? It sure wouldn't put much of a dent in their operating cost.

Hi queenofcruzin, I was on a 5 night cruise on the Enchantment. I never heard of a "Concierge Happy Hour". There is a Concierge lounge on the Enchantment that's open from 5:00 to 8:30, you could call it: Happy 3-1/2 hour...
