Aft on the ship

Hello, I have read in several areas about the Aft. What is it, or what area is it in? I have a feeling that people like to have their room around that area. Are the rooms bigger?

I think its more of a direction that a place. I believe it means towards the back of the ship, but I could be off.

Aft is the back, (also called the Stern) and Bow is front. Port is the left side (remember by knowing that "port" has the same number of letter as "left" and Starboard is the right side.

On the cruise ships, the Aft balcony cabins have bigger baconies (because of the shape of the back end of the vessel) That's why the people like them. Also, a normal balcony can be very windy, while the Aft balconies are not because the ship blocks the wind.

The aft is the back of the ship. Starboard in the right side and Port is the left side. The Bow is the front of the ship. When people are talking about the aft cabins, they are talking about the very back of the ship. Not the cabins on the side. To see the aft of the Jewel of the Seas, click HERE
