Ok, we stayed in the penthouse (U90)on the Fascination with a room size of 330 sq ft. very comfortable, then stayed on a balcony on the Grand, not sure sq ft but they said it was 250sq ft (E728) it was a little cramped I found for 4 people, outside cabin on the fascination was 187 sf ft (apparently)so mall could never imagine fitting 4 people in a room this size, our balcony cabin on the Explorer (#6658) is supposed to be 215 sq ft which is not much bigger than out outside on the Fascination and smaller than our balcon cabin on the Grand. How can they actually fit 4 people in a room that size (215sq ft)or is the sq ft incorrect? Anyone stayed in these room?
Thanks Leigh

Carnival has the largest standard cabins in the industry, and RCI and NCL have the smallest. You want to see cramped? Standard cabins on the Sovereign/Majesty/Monarch Of The Seas vessels are 120 square feet - and many of them hold four people.
The tightest we have been was three of us (with one being a child) in a standard outside cabin on the old Norwegian Sea. That cabin was 112 square feet.
Dave's right about the Sovereign of the Seas. That was the only time I've ever felt claustrophic in a cabin. I had elbow bruises from trying to take a shower!
Wow, feel like a heel complaining of my cabin size. Guess what happended is I spoiled myself with my first real cruise by staying in the penthouse. I think I found the outside cabin small because there was no balcony. I am a little, ok I am claustrophobic and I have a tendency to get motion sick so being in a small crowded room is not an ideal place for me, balconies are a life saver. So on my vogage on the Explorer, I will look at my cabin with a sih of relief that I actually have a cabin to complain about on a big beautiful ship...some people never even get the opportunity to be in that position, ok you can slap me now.

I just got off the phone with RCCL and in booking the JS I found out that it is totally obstructed by a 6' platform as well I was told all Balconies have that same platform which blocks the view of the water, apparently you can look out at the water but cannot look down? Don't understand why this would be. As well all balconies have steel inserts so you cannot see through. Not sure if I'm likin this idea. Takes away of having a balcony. Also I was told that all ships other than the Rhapsody have been refurbished, after looking at the webshots I find it hard to believe that those cabins have been done, orange comforters & blue carpet? guess it matches the orange sofa's Can anyone help me out with pictures of balcony views? Trying to get an idea of what the platforms she is talking about are like.
Thanks
Leigh

Someone posted some photos of the balconies a while back. I'll see if I can find them. Are you talking about side or aft balconies on the Explorer....or both?
Hi Dave.....you are just so quick,
JS is #6694. Balconies are #6656 & 6658. I saw some shots of 6694 and it looks as though there is a rather large platform, it would be spectacular if you were able to use the platform but I don't think that is possible. Seems to me that it does not get quite alot of sun, looks rather shady. It is a beautiful view though....oh what to do?
Thanks Dave

Wow, now am I confused, saw allthose great aft cabins with the rather large balconies and now the 6656 balcony is not looking quite as appealing. It looks to me that getting a cabin #8390 or 8690 is the way to go, you can see more of the water where 6694 is pretty much all platform and it looks like you get more sun as it is not sheltered quite like on deck 6. Is this right. I wonder if they even have those avail....I am going to call now.
Thanks Dave, gotta call RCCL
