I am going on a cruise for the first time on Grandeur of the seas and I went to book my shore excursions, and it said I need to chekc if the ship is going to stick to ship time (departure port time) or be on local time before I book the excursions. Anyone know how I can find out?

I have cruised with RCCL 9 times, and 8 of them they gave you the speach about always keeping "ships time" while in port, which works fine as long as you rely on your own watch. However, on a Feb '06 Radiance cruise to the Western Carib., they changed to local time. All of the prearranged excursion tickets were printed with ships time, and it was a complete madhouse. Even the captain got the time wrong when he gave his morning talk. To top it off, the next day we switched back. When we asked the crew, they blamed the idea on the "new" Cruise Director, and said that they had never seen this done before. Although I have no idea how you would find out if they will change the time on you, I would bet that they don't do it often in the Carib. as it really isnt that critical to move a clock one hour up or back.

I don't remember changing our watches or even any discussion of time difference. The only thing we can come up with is that they don't participate in Day Lites Savings Time. When we went 3 years ago we went in May and we change our clocks forward in April. If that is the case then we would be on the same time zone. Does that make sense? the same would be true this year also as we are going April 9th and day lights savings time is the 2nd!

What port are you leaving from, and what ports are you visiting?
I'm on the Grandeur from Tampa to Cozumel 3/16, and that stays on Ship Time. we don't have to worry about changing our watches, etc... Just be careful if you ask a local what time it is, and note that a 7PM departure is 6PM local time. You don't want to be late!!!
