When I went on my first honeymoon back in 1994 we stayed at the hotel Intercontinental overlooking Biscayne Bay in Miami. It was only 7 miles from the Miami airport and I could see the cruise ship from my room.

Sorry to not respond sooner, Queen - I've started like 5 discussions, each regarding a different honeymoon question, and sort of lost track. I prob. shouldn't be doing that , I don't want to take over the entire board.

Anyway, we have decided to take the Adventure and spend 4 days in San Juan before we cruise. We just have to decide on a hotel in the coming months - as Dr mentioned, the Intercontinental is an option. The other two that have been recommended are the Embassy Suites (friends of ours loved it) and the Ritz Carlton. Those are all a bit pricey, though, so we will see what happens.

My folks cruise all the time, they prefer to leave from San Juan, they spend 2 days before and after and they love the Marriott there. Be prepared, SJ is VERY expensive...eggs and toast the hotel was over $30....they ventured out beyond the city limits the 2nd time they went and found that food etc., was much less.
Also, if you sign up for Marriott Rewards, you can earn free upgrades and stays...they're down in Curacao now cashing in 4 days at the Marriott there....
Wherever you do stay, have a wonderful time...it's on my stop next week when we leave and I'm anxious to say that I've finally been there!!
Kind Regards,
Rummie

For your honeymoon, I would make a reservation at a hotel within your budget, and then since you have time, bid on priceline for a nicer hotel. This has worked for me and many times I end up with an hotel so nice I feel like a movie star !

I've been told that SJ is expensive...it has me a little worried, but we have no problem eating at cheap cafes and avoiding the expensive restaurants. What is the best way to get to those outlying, cheaper areas? One reason I like the Embassy Suites is that breakfast and a happy hour is included .

I considered Priceline, but the idea of purchasing an unknown hotel room (even at a good price) is too much for me. I like to do my research and know what I am getting into. Also, once you place a bid, aren't you required to take the room if the bid is accepted? What if it's not what you want? Or in an area that you don't like? Fortunately, my friend is a TA that works for Jet Blue and is an avid cruiser - I'm hoping she can find the deals!

Yeah Mike, SJ can BE expensive, but do your research, and you should be fine. I understand the savings Embassy Suites can provide.

Yes, I know many do not like the NOT KNOWING of priceline, and YES your bid is prepaid with a credit card. When you are bidding on a 4 star hotel, you won't end up in area you don't like. 4 star hotels aren't located there. But that said don't do Priceline if thatwould spoil your honeymoon.

But, if you would like to save money, do some research on Dorado, the other side of Peurto Rico, very resort-like and you have 4 days so you don't have to be in San Juan. I stayed there post cruise and loved it(the Hyatt).
