So I've been trying to plan a Honeymoon cruise, and these are the two I have narrowed it down to. Which would you pick? We would choose a balcony room. I've never sailed from either of these ports, so I know very little of them. Also, we are considering flying down a few days early and enjoying the area, so keep that in mind. All advice is appreciated. If anyone has a completely different suggestion, I'm open to that, also.

The Liberty is a brand new ship and the Miami airport is a lot closer to the dock than Orlando. But if you're flying in early that might not matter. Also you get the private island at the end of your cruise. With the Mariner you get st.thomas[better shopping]but you might not like two straight sea days at the end.

If you want to include Disney World as part of your pre-cruise honeymoon, which would be a blast, go with the Mariner. If not, I'd go with the Liberty. The ship is awesome, and as rcclfan noted, it's easier getting to the port of Miami than to Port Canaveral.

Looks like the Liberty is winning http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...icon_smile.gif I was leaning that way anyway. Anyone else want to add their 2 cents?

rcclfan - how does the private island work? We are not scheduled to stop there. Can we go there for a few days before out cruise?

I considered Disney World, but its not what we really want to do.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good place to stay and relax in Miami? I was hoping for a Sandals or some other all-inclusive place, but haven't had any luck finding one (or affording it, for that matter)

Check out The Palms in Miami beach, we really enjoyed our stay there. I think I'd vote for the Liberty. Coco Cay, real name Little Stirrup Cay is leased by Royal Caribbean. It is part of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas. So, I don't think you can stay there. However, Great Harbour Cay is a beautiful resort in the Berrys and it's pretty close. Best wishes!

My aunt just returned from the Liberty. She has been on 34 cruises and said it was her favorite ship!
I am booking it for April.

The private island would be the labadee stop on liberty, and cococay on mariner. It's a day at the beach with a free bbq.

rcclfan - now you have me confused - they also have a private island at labedee? and does that mean we should not book an excursion for that day, but instead go to the beach party?

I also noticed that the Adventure leaves the same weekend from Puerto Rico. PR might be a better place than Miami to hang out for a few days before the cruise. I still like the Liberty ship/cruise the best. Thoughts?

Labadee is RCCL's private port, but they have some excursions available. The zip line is brand new, SonnyV did this and I believe they have cave-tubing available, but I might be confusing that with Belize. SonnyV has been in Labadee a lot, maybe you could pm him. For me, I would rather spend time in Miami than in Puerto Rico (nothing against Puerto Rico Casanova), but that could be an option for you. You might also be able to do a more southern route from there, which I love personally. They may have one with Grenada, Dominica, Antigua, or even Trinidad/Tobago. You could check that option out as well. I'm not sure that they do a 5 day out of Puerto Rico, though, I thought they were just 7 day, but I could be wrong. Just when you think you've got it narrowed down, but hey, that's the fun in planning http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo.../icon_wink.gif

Labadee is actually a small peninsula on the northern coast of Haiti that RCI owns, so it isn't an island although it is private. You have no choice if the ship stops at either Labadee or Coco Cay. If you want to leave the ship then you go to the private island (or peninsula). There is no access to private tours or places outside the control of the cruise line.

Check out this thread to see a map of Labadee and a google earth photo of the facility.
