We just got back from our first cruise on the Sovereign of the Seas (4-night cruise). We were told by our waiter the night before formal night that formal outfits were optional. That said, I'd say for the most part the women were dressed better than the men. There were men with tuxes, there were also men with dockers and a nice shirt.

It is suggested men wear tuxes. How many men really wear them? Less than 50%
And for the non formal nights how dressy does everyone get for dinner?
This was my original question.. I just returned and for those of you reading this on our ship I'd say 75% of the men wore a tux the first formal night and about 50% the second formal night. So get them out and look sharp. Women were dressed to kill and the photo's turn out great.
I always wear my tux on formal nights. The pictures look great. And over half of all men do. I rarely wear a jacket for smart casual. But I sure do miss Renaissance. No tie no jackets no smoking no kids!
