I need to find out the actual room sizes and if they are too small for a family of 4. I am booking a cruise on the Empress of the Seas next June and with some of the reviews I am not sure. I have right now a Ocean view state room with the pullman beds. Unfortunately the JS don't accomodate a family of 4 which is quite odd. Thanks. I am really concerned about these pullman beds. I don't want my children sleeping in a bed over top of me???

Which is exactly what the pullman beds are; they pull down from the ceiling or fold down from the wall. How old are your children? If they are small, a quad cabin might not be bad at all; if they are teens, you might want to look into getting a second cabin across the hall or next door (yes, it is more money, unfortunately). Ask your TA or the reservations agent if there are any quad cabins on this ship that have a foldout couch instead of pullman beds; that might be a bit more comfortable for your family. Royal Caribbean does tend to have smallish cabins, especially on their older ships.

The boys are 7 & 8 so I should be o.k. but I am going to see if any of the cabins that I have has a sofa bed instead of a pullman. Great idea.

Karen:

Have you been on the Empress of the Seas, did you like it and was there plenty to do? Do you book most of your shore excursions off of the boat?

I just returned from a 5 day trip on the Empress. I would not recommend this ship to anyone. We went on Adventure of the Seas lastyear and it was amazing. There were too many things to do and not enough time, the service was incredible, food was incredible, shows wonderful. Empress was none of these things. We found ourselves twiddling our thumbs several times with nothing to do. It did not help that although we had booked to go to Cozumel we ended up going to Nassau b/c of a propeller problem. Each person was given a $150 credit which I don not feel was sufficiant. There were many, many unhappy people on this ship. The crew did not seem to want to be there and the overall feeling was depressing. I recommend going on a voyager class ship- you will be blown away. Hope my two cents have been of help.
