We will be on a western caribbean cruise in April. We were there 2 years ago and we never had a chance to sample some local mexican food. Where is a good place that has mexican food that's close to the pier?
So many places were destroyed during the hurricane. Depending on the pier you dock at, Carlos n Charlies or Margaritaville wouldn't be too far. You could go down to Chankanaab Park or Paradise Beach, they both have decent restaurants. However, just strolling around, you might find a local joint. You can always smell good Mexican food Even if you don't know what it is
You will probably dock at the International pier. It's a couple of miles from town and a couple of miles from Chankanaab . Taxis are very easy to get and cheap so, don't be afraid to wander in to town. La Mission is very good. Some folks like Casa Denis (on the square) although it has been hit and miss for us. Tony Rome's is American owned and offers a variety of food options. Casa Mission is a way off the beaten path but is about our favorite place to eat in Coz. Pancho's Backyard is also a great choice. El Moro is another off the beaten path. Good Luck and enjoy a very safe Cozumel.
The last devastating hurricane that hit Coz was Wilma in Oct 2005. Most everything has been rebuilt or replaced.

If you want to combine a beach day with an awesome Mexican lunch, I can also recommend Paradise Beach. Not close to the piers though, but a good way to visit the beach and enjoy some awesome food.
