Im a first time cruiser, just back from the med on voyager, if anyone has any questions just give me a shout and I'll try and be as helpful as possible.
Hi Corkgirl, How was the service and the attitude of the staff? They seem to have been a problem previously. Hopefully they have improved. Any examples good or bad?

I had a lovely time on the voyager, The staff couldnt have been more helpful and polite, I really do not know how they do this day in day out and when we got off in Barcelona there were people coming off flights to head to the ship and they had to do it ALL AGAIN! Every night seemed like we were the very first cruise that they had that year. James Andrews was our cruise director and he had great energy. The food in the main La Boheme restaurant was adequate but the portions were quite small. Just enough for me but my boyfriend could have done with alot more, Our waiter was excellent and extremely helpful.
The windjammer was good too, from early morning until 9/30pm you can get all kinds of everything in here, its strange to be able to keep going up for more deserts! feeling guilty! Every single thing you could want for breakfast is there, with lots of toppings and extras. The midnight buffet is an absolute must on the Thursday night. The ice sculptures and the food presentation is excellent. You have to go early before 12midnight as after twelve people get to eat it. Its a sin to eat it it is laid out so fabulously. You'll know what I mean when you see it! faces made out of melon, windmills made from bread, etc unreal.
The excursions were VERY hard work, we didnt go with any of the recommended royal caribbean ones as we felt we were on holiday I didnt want to be tied to a tour for 8 - 10 hours. They seemed to have early starts and home just in time to rush for the early sitting for dinner.
Instead we took our time and did our own thing. I would prefer to do Rome on our own some time as there is so much to see and do there I didnt want to rush it with a tour. As a woman I felt that I would have liked to stay on the ship more and soak up the sun and the facilities on board, you can bring fruit and sandwiches etc to your sunbed while you bathe its great!
The first stop is Villefrance from here you can go to monte carlo - we went there on a bus as the trains were on strike its nice not much to do there but just to say you saw the casino and the wealth! along with the formula one thingy!!
The spa was very expensive and I got a ladies special which wasnt worth it to be honest. but if you want to ask me any questions feel free!
Corkgirl- Your boyfriend did know that he could have ordered more than one serving didn't he? In fact I have been know to order a couple of main courses because I couldn't choose just one. On lobster night, I get the prime rib AND a lobster since they always put them on th esame night and I like both.. The wife will get two lobsters. Once she told our waiter that "he could not bring too many lobsters". She was proven wrong.

Hey Jim, no we were never told at any point or indeed asked if we wanted anymore, no sooner had the starter plate been removed within 30 seconds the main course plate was in front of us. Im disappointed that we didnt know this as the meals were very small sob sob! And i think it will be quite a while before I get him to go on one again!!
Corkgirl- Sorry you didn't know you could ask for more. It does depend on the server on if they will offer or not. It makes more work for them to make additional trips to the galley as I think they are only allowed to "order" one at a time. But our waiter on Mariner seemed to bring them all at once when we asked for more than one serving. They will keep them on the side until you finish the first plate and then bring you the second. He also seemed to rbing multiple desserts for us to try the other desserts if we didn't order what he though was the best ones. We have found this to be true on both Carnival AND RCCL, so if you can get him to go again, assure him this can be done.
