nassau excursions

MY FAMILY AND I (WIFE AND KIDS AGE 10,12,13) WILL BE ON THE SOS LEAVING OCT. 9TH. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ABOUT SHORE EXCURSIONS IN NASSAU. I AM LOOKING FOR SOMETHING NOT OFFERED BY THE CRUISE LINE. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE DIFFERENT TO DO IN THIS PORT THAT WOULD BE FUN FOR THE FAMILY TO DO. THANKS FOR THE HELP.

There's the straw market, the queen's staircase, there's a nice beach that is public next to the Atlantis in Paradise Island (which is right across the bridge from Nassau), there used to be a turtle farm (not sure if it's still there), or you might want to check out excursions on-line. Have a great cruise!

For the life of me I can't remember the name of the snorkling place that I visited but I found it by asking the front desk in Nassau when you cut through the little shops to get to the island. It was highly recommended by many of the locals and it was maybe $40/person. It was also within walking distance. They took us out where it was so clear and there weren't 5 other tours going on and maybe only 8 or 10 of us on the boat. Bring a little cash.. for $1 the give you a little bag of feed (I think it's dog food. LOL) and the fish eat right out of your hand. It was an awesome experience.

The beach next to the Atlantis is a good one. They have parasailing and jetskis if you want to do something like that. You probably would find in worth your time to do a google search for Nassau excursions.

Public zoo, small, about 1 mile from the port. They have a flamingo show and people can go in the parrot cage during feeding, the birds sit on your head and outstretched arm. My 17 year old son thought it was boring, my 15 year old daughter loved the close contact with animals. The cruise line offers a dolphin encounter excursion. That same facility has a swim with the dolphins, not offered through the cruise line.

Hey the cab drivers at the entrance offer great tours at lower prices. The Queens Staircase is a must see and the Forts are cool also. The tour of Atlantis is cool also if it includes the Fish Tank. The straw Market is ok not as good as it used to be 20 years ago but still good but you must argue with them to get the good prices, they love it even if they are complaining. There is an island called Dolphins Cove thats nice to go to. Cable Beach Casino is nice to.

Spent my honeymoon there ~10 years ago and we did a Robinson Crusoe cruise with snorkeling. Agree with seeing Atlantis remarkable shark tanks and coral reef tanks that you walk under. The straw market was a disappointment for us.
