Last year in April, we were on Mariner OTS, and the Captain was Tor Isak Olsen. This year in October, the Captain was Captain Johnny, both wonderful gentlemen. When we asked some of the crew on board about what had happened to Captain Olsen, they acted like they'd never heard of him, didn't know what had happened to him, or if he had been given another ship. Does anyone know what has happened to him, or if he has moved on to another company?

Jim, cruise lines tend to rotate Captains among their ships of the same "class." It's possible that the crew had never heard of him because the crew may be different now than a year ago. Crew contracts tend to last 6-8 months onboard, and then 6-4 months back home. When they sign on for a new contract after the time at home, they may be assigned to a different ship.

Hi Sandy-I knew that the crews rotated, but we asked the cruise director Kirk Detweiler, who was on the ship last year also, and he seemed to try to avoid the question. It's not a big deal-we were just wondering if he quit RCCL, or was just assigned to another ship. Captain Johnny was great and always happy, as he said, "....being back on Mariner...." as he stated that he was always the first Captain on all the Voyager Class ships, and had taken Mariner out the first time. We had thought that we would meet Captain Olsen at the welcome back meeting; oh well.........
