Since we live close to Baltimore and our ship departs from there, we will probably board at 1pm (the earliest time). Should we have lunch prior to boarding?

Yes, there will be a luncheon buffet onboard. They usually begin serving around noon and it is open until 3 or 4 depending on the sailing time. Enjoy!

Don't eat before you board!
When you board, drop off your carry on in your room, then go straight to the buffet where you can graze until your stuffed. The view from the buffet of most harbors is beautiful as well.
What a wonderful way to start your vacation!
Have a great time.

This is a cruise ship. There is ALWAYS food available. If you are going hungry, its because you have eaten so much that you can't even roll off the bed to get to the cabin phone to order room service.

Thanks everyone. I kind of thought it was a "duh" question, but oh well.

Assuming that you are cruising Royal Caribbean, it is likely that you will be able to board as early as 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. You just won't be able to get to your stateroom until after 1:00 p.m. That leaves two+ hours to familiarize yourself with the ship, go to the Windjammer for lunch, and if you pack your swim suit in your carry-ons, you can get a quick dip in the pool or hot tub. Take advantage...this may the least crowded the public areas will be for the entire cruise...
Bon voyage!
