Amid cloudy skies in NY harbor this morning, Royal Caribbean's Freedom Of The Seas was officially named and blessed by the ship's Godmother, Kathryn Louise Calder. Ms. Calder won a national contest for the honor, in which the contestents were woman who have made a difference in their communities. She has served as a foster parent to over 400 children for the past 27 years. Along with staying in the Presidential Suite during the past couple of days, she will also be entitled to free cruises for life with RCCL. Not bad!
The festivities were carried live on NBC's Today Show, which frankly was goofy at times with Katie Couric trying to steer the ship under the guidance of Captain Bill Wright, and a poor lip-synch performance by surprise guest Barry Manilow. The FlowRider is interesting, and NBC spent a lot of time at it. Umm, I believe I'll pass and settle for being an observer during next month's inaugural cruise.
Just 23 days until the cruise!
