Are there any shore tours which are not worth doing, and is it better to organise trips yourself locally or through the ship?

I always book thru the ship....but if you want to take the chance on missing the ship, book it yourself....I would do the White Pass Railroad ride in Skagway....I've done it twice....Juneau I would do the Mendenhall glacier and /or whale watching.....salmon fishing in Ketchikan...just look thru your ships excursions and do what sounds like a good match for you...Anything you do in Alaska is wonderful...Happy Sailing...

Definitely the White Pass Railway in Skagway. We are doing that for the second time on our cruise next week.
