We are on the Explorer of the Seas over Xmas and New year. Cruising on Xmas day. Has anyone enjoyed this before - I mean Xmas day at sea? Just wondered if it's a specially special day on board

The ship is decorated beautifully, most of the staff will be wearing santa hats or some type of Christmas decoration. Normally, you will receive a little gift that morning or evening, like candy canes in a stocking. They usually offer a traditional Christmas dinner selection in the dining room. It's a wonderful way to spend Christmas! Best wishes and have a marvelous cruise!

Christmas and New Years Day are probably the most popular two days of the year to be on a ship. Look at pricing for these sailing dates for verification. Book it very early if you want to get on a ship for these holidays. I can't tell you how many hundreds of calls I've gone through for people calling and thinking if they waited, the last minute discounts would happen. They don't, your best price is usually 8 months or more in advance for such popular dates. If you call past this summer, don't expect to find many cabins and the ones still out there go at a premium.

What about Thanksgiving? That doesn't seem to be extra expensive like Christmas or New Years. Is that because it's an American holiday? Do they serve turkey on Thanksgiving Day?

Thanksgiving is slightly higher than other cruises. They do serve a traditional turkey dinner on Thanksgiving day. We'll be on board the Emerald Princess this year for Thanksgiving, Lord willing.

the past four years my mom and i have been cruising during christmas and one this upcoming christmas. i love it! lol sometimes u will forget its christmas though. even though the ships are beautifully decorated, the hot weather and seeing people in their swimsuits just doesnt scream christmas time to me. but im ok with that. and coming back with tan lines while everybody at home is shivering crazily is the best part to me lol
