I was reading about the unrest at Roatan & that some cruise ships are cancelling that port of call. Anyone have news? What is RCCL policy if there is an advisory to stay away? Also will I get a refund for any excursion I booked?
The cruise line will never put passengers or the ship in jeopardy. If the U.S. Department of State puts out a travel advisory for Roatan I'm sure the cruise lines will being pulling ships. The cruise line may do so without a travel warning if they felt safety was being compromised.
Twice we have had a port change due to travel advisory, once on Freeport and once on Haiti. In both instances RCCL substituted another port. I understand they can't always do this, but it was nice to have somewhere else to go and not just another at sea day.

We were on the Holland America Veendam last week, scheduled to stop in Roatan on Thursday, 11/6. We stayed some yards away from the dock for several hours (while discussions apparently were underway) until the Captain announced that we would not be stopping due to the unrest -- safety was more important.
He took us on a tour (in the Veendam) around the island since we had nothing better to do! Port taxes for Roatan and excursion fees were all refunded and there was free champagne at dinner!
I was there October 22nd. on the Carnival Glory and our bus driver told us the unrest had stopped. I guess it got started back up again. The driver told us they had increased the electricity so many times over, and had added a surcharge.
