Except for the distance from the airport(s) to the port, there really isn't much difference in the proceedures. Galveston has a much larger indoor area so you do have to stand outside.

The Galveston port is not quite as busy as Miami. There are only a few ships in port at a time. Carnival has the first pier & Royal Car. has the second one. You will have a great time.

This link is very interesting & it has a port camera for Galveston. In the view, you will first see the restaraunt then beyond that is Carnivals terminal & a little further down is Royals. Depending when you view, you can actually see the ships in port.

Go to this site. Galveston has a port camera that shows the restaraunt you will see when you make the left turn to go to the terminals. Just beyond that you will see Carnivals terminal building, then Royal Caribbean's terminal just past that. Not quite as big as Miami so don't expect Galveston to give you the WOW factor. Depending on when you look, you may also see ships when they are in port.
