I've read here in the past that people with balconies leave their doors open at night to enjoy the sound of the ocean. On our last cruise we tried that but the air conditioner turned off and we were too hot so had to close the doors. Is there a secret on how to fool the air conditioner so we can leave the doors open?

That's a new one for me. You might try just leaving the door open just enough to hear the ocean. How do you hear the ocean when you're sleeping? http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo.../icon_wink.gif

I tried leaving our balcony door open one night, but I became afraid someone would leap the balcony decks and come into our cabin. Come in for what? Who the heck knows? Just made me feel very uncomfortable to leave that dad-gummed door open all night!! http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...s/icon_eek.gif

I am confused why would the air condition go off because the balcony door is open? http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...n_confused.gif

Spritfilled-I guess the Lounge Lizards and the Bar Flies on board didn't bother your godsister at all!

I've heard from a few people that they bring bungee cords to hold the doors open. Is there no way to keep them open without cords or rope? Or am I just gullible?
I'll be going on a carnival cruise, but I assume the doors are similar. And Spiritfilled, as I understand it, the A/C is rigged to turn off when the balcony doors open - saves energy. |
Mike is correct. There is a door switch (like a refrigerator light switch that is used to turn off the A/C (one the newer ships).
Having a bunch of cabins with the doors open all night can really mess with the ships A/C system balance. So they decided to have it shut off. IF you can stand to have the door open, why would you need A/C? Having it open is going to over power any cooling the A/C could do in my book. And for Spiritfilled- If she was afraid of Seamonsters (which is a hoot) why did she let you book a Balcony? |
I thought I had read somewhere once to bring a refridgerator magnet to put somewhere so it will override the a/c shutoff. We couldn't find where that might be.
