Indeed, the hard-working & much-deserving cruise staffers do have families back home to support. The vast majority comes from third world countries. They sign up with the cruise labor contractors at their respective yet impoverised countries. They fall in long lines with high hopes to grab a life-changing opportunity. One that many of us take for granted. Almost all yearn to make a difference not only to themselves but to their familes. We tip extra to the much-deserving staffer.. be it may Kendall from Jamaica, Kim from Korea, Arthur from the
Philippines, etc..

But, these aim-to-please & super staffers deserve recognition as well. Monetary tip? .. why not go farther. Compose a short note & DO state to the ship's Hotel Director how great Kendall, Kim, Arthur are. In turn, let the staff know about it during the cruise. Months after your cruise,
they'll remember you at their promotion hearing. Yes, the almighty money buys but the mightiest motivator for the majority is recognition.

One added incentive for YOU for dropping a positive note to the hotel director. You may just get a fine bottle of wine at dinner as token of appreciation for your care & concern... delivered ceremonially by the maitre'd.. Voile', your table mates will be impressed.

I agree 100% that these people work above and beyond their call of duty. I can't imagine not thanking each of them in person. Recognition & appreciation does go a long way.
