Internet service

I am leaving for a cruise on saturday and was wondering about the internet service. We are going to buy the package for unlimited use. Does anyone know if it is dail up or dsl. I have msn for my mail and AIM for instant messaging. Does anyone know if those companies charge you a separate fee. I am going to the western caribbean. My friend has aol and was wondering if they charge a roaming fee.

There will be no roaming fees and service fees are compatible with your home service provider (if you have unlimited use on AOL, msn, etc. they will not charge any additional service fees). What ship will you be sailing on as the Internet system is not the same on all ships in the fleet?

If they are offering an unmlimited use package you are probably on a Voyager or Radiance class ship. In this instance you will be on dial-up like satellite connection and it is somewhat slow. You will have a hard wire connection in your cabin and wi-fi hot spots are also aboard the ships if you want to use your notebook. It is a great deal (especially if you share the cost with your friend).

I will be sailing on Mariner of the sea. When you said service fees are compatible are you referring to the ships fees? I heard you can get unlimited access for the week for $100.00. Will there be other fees on top of that? I have unlimited use a msn and my friend has unlimited use as long as she is through dsl but not for dail up.

Sorry my message wasn't quite clear. You will only be charged the ship's fees ($100 for unlimited use if that is what you choose) - there will be no additional charges through your home providers. The Mariner will have in-cabin access as well as wi-fi hot spots as Tom mentioned.

Just a tip regarding AOL - For some reason it is often difficult to connest directly to AOL on ship's (that is the service I have). So, pass on to your friend - if he is having difficulty connecting through AOL - just use Internet Explorer (or your msn connection) and then once online - go to http://www.aol.com and sign on that way. Have no clue why this happens - but it can be annoying.

Silverwagon, be sure to get the unlimited useage access as the Internet on Royal Caribbean's ships is ssssllllooooooowwwwwww. Maybe it has changed since I last cruised on them, but it was painfully slow then.
