I'm a first-time cruiser, so bear with me. We will be traveling on SOS later this month.
I'm wondering what we do with our "stuff" (SeaPass card, photo id, cash, room key, etc.) when we go ashore at Cococay. Do they have lockers? I know we can leave things in the safe on the ship, but what about the things that we need to carry with us?
Hi MollyJo!
Congratulations on your first cruise. You will love it. When I go ashore, I only carry my SeaPass card which is also your room key and whatever cash I plan on spending. I purchased a small plastic box that is on a cord that hangs around your neck from the ships store. It is smaller than a pack of cigarettes and weighs almost nothing. It is waterproof so I wear it wherever I go. My husband just carries his in the little pocket of his bathing suit, the vendors still take the money even though it is wet
Bear in mind that Coco Cay is private and theft is really not a problem. It isn't much different from a security aspect than being on the pool deck. There are no lockers as I recall. You simply have to exercise the same precautions as you do when aboard the ship.
There isn't much need in bringing a lot of cash with you. They have a little marketplace on Coco Cay where some locals set up shop to sell trinkets - but that is the only place where money is needed. Otherwise, it is just like being aboard the ship with your seapass required to buy drinks.
Thanks for your replies. I feel better about that and can now go obsess about something else -- like what I'm going to wear on formal night and whether or not to buy the soda card.
