We are sailing on the Majesty the day after Christmas. My wife and I have been on 4 cruises but the last was 10 years ago. We have our 3 sons, 22, 20 and 17 going with us this time.
1) Are there travel irons and hair dryers in the cabins?
2) One of my sons will turn 18 in February. Can I get him a pass to go into the clubs on board at night? He is very mature.
Hi keacc,
Hair dryers are provided in every stateroom (they are the kind that require you to hold down the power button the whole time - so you may prefer to bring your own).
There will not be irons in the cabin, however. They are considered a fire hazard and not permitted. I have brought mine in the past, but on my last RC cruise (a few weeks ago) a number of the people from the group I was traveling with had their's confiscated and returnde to them at the end of the cruise (somehow mine got through).
As for your son going to the clubs at night. RC has a policy that no one under 18 is permitted in some venues in the evening. There are no special passes or privileges granted. But, if he were to be in the clubs with you my guess would be nothing would be said. If it were just the boys, however, there is a good chance he would get carded and denied access.
There are hairdryers, usually in the vanity/desk drawer that you can plug into the outlet at the vanity table. If, for some reason, your room doesn't have a hairdryer, as the room steward.
They don't allow passengers to have irons, but the room steward or chief room steward usually has one and an ironing board in his area on deck that he'll let you use. You can't take it back to the cabin.
Your kids can't be in the casino if they're under 18, but I'm not sure about the other venues. Obviously they can't drink, but as far as sitting there with you, I don't recall.
Although your cruise is still several days away, given the tragedy that happened today at the entrance to the Port Of Miami you really should contact your agent to see if your cruise is going to be affected. The current sailing of the Majesty Of The Seas is on hold and the ship is still docked because the channel to the port is closed.
Just as an update, the channel at the Port of Miami has been officially reopened (or at least a portion of it). Based on reports from Carnival and RC:
Carnival planned for both the Imagination and Fascination to sail at around 4 p.m. (EST)Fascination will operate a modified itinerary to Freeport and Nassau, instead of its originally scheduled ports of Key West and Calica. Imagination will visit Key West and Calica, instead of the originally scheduled Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios.
RC expects the Majesty of the Seas to sail about 6 p.m. (EST) The only itinerary change was missing Nassau today; Majesty will visit CocoCay and Key West as planned.
Thanks for posting the update. I know there must be many frustrated passengers on these three ships. I hope they understand why the channel had to be closed. It will be interesting to see what, if any, compensation is given. Frankly, I don't see where the cruise lines need to do anything. It was beyond their control. Although, in the spirit of good customer relations I would not be surprised to see something offered to the pax.
Hi Dave,
Carnival was offering a $100 pp shipboard credit and passengers were being permitted to cancel without penalty. Royal Caribbean did not indicate any compensation (at least no public announcement was made).
Nancy
My sources now tell me that RCCL has also offered $100 pp shipboard credit or no penalty cancellation. Only handful of passengers opted to leave the Majesty Of The Seas.
