Mariner of the Seas- Dining Room attire

HI
This is our first time on RCL. We are on a 7 night cruise on Mariner leaving Sunday. We know there are 2 formal nights but what about the other "smart casual" nights? The real question I have is, are shorts for men out of the question? Isn't there an island night during which shorts might be ok? We were previously on Princess and the dining rooms was not nearly as formal as I expect the RCL one (from the photos) to be, and on Princess you could get away with Kaki shorts and a nice shirt on non formal nights. I was told by one RCL traveler- no shorts but I wanted feedback from others in the "30 someting" crowd!

Shorts are not allowed on RCCL for dinner seatings. And I have seen people turned away at the door for wearing them - on the Mariner in fact, in 2004. Of course, I have no doubt that in the rush of the crowd entering when the doors open, some people manage to get in wearing shorts.

Ally, shorts are always allowed at the buffet restaurant, for all 3 meals. If you're wearing shorts and don't feel like changing for dinner, you could always go to the buffet at any time that it's open.

Ally-
My family and I are taking the same cruise!We are also in the "30" something age group too, maybe we can meet and say "hey".I have packed khaki pants and polo shirts for my husband and pants, dressy capris and simple dresses for casual nights. My husband wanted to wear shorts, but that was quickly vetoed by me.

We have early. We have a 10 and 9 year old so we wanted to try to stick to the dining schedule that we have at home.
