I have not been paying attention. I did not realize that the Sovereign has been moved to Europe until I tried to find a cruise on it in the spring to the Bahamas.
I know how that feels, countrymoon. I've said "goodbye" to several favorite ships in the past few years, most recently Norwegian Dream. They can take away our ships, but not our memories.
Luckily, Royal Caribbean's ships, Majesty of the Seas from Miami and Monarch of the Seas from Port Canaveral, are still doing short Bahamas cruises in the spring. I'll miss Sovereign, too.
My very first cruise was onboard the Sovereign of the Seas. It was almost exactly 4 years ago. Yes, it was during that last general/Presidential election. I had to mail in my absentee ballot before the cruise. During that cruise they were in the process of renovating/refurbishing the Sovereign. They already closed off certain areas of the ship (like parts of the upper deck of the Windjammer Cafe, the aft athletic/basketball deck, and the mini-theatres on the lowest deck). It must have been after that cruise that they sent the Sovereign to a dry dock in the Bahamas for her major multi-million dollar make-over. I remember seeing a mini-series on TV about the Sovereign's make-over titled "A Cruise Ship Is Reborn". It was nice seeing the ship again (on TV this time) and the same crew members.
I suppose I will miss the Sovereign. Especially since I did not get a chance to take another cruise on her after the refurbishment/make-over).
My first cruise was the Sovereign a long time ago. Me and my wife went on it a few months back because we knew it would be our last chance. It was still fun. We spent way too much time and $$ in the casino though
The Sovereign was special to us, too. Our very first cruise was to the Bahamas on her last August and we had a great time. We're booked on her sister ship, Monarch, next August for a return trip to the Bahamas, and we're hoping for some deja vu moments to relive those special memories. Guess you really can't do it again, but you can sure do something similar!
Yeah the Sovereign was my first cruise
too, November 2005. I was on deck 2 outside cabin with a porthole. I enjoyed roaming the ship, sitting poolside reading or writing in my journal. The Sovereign insured that I would cruise again because the ship was great, the staff were wonderful.
