Genesis Class

Any of you know when they will start accepting reservations for the Genesis class? I would assume sometime soon. I am thinking of booking as soon as this comes up to check out this awesome sounding ship.

It's scheduled for delivery in fall of 2009, so I wouldn't expect them to start selling rooms until spring of next year. Maybe earlier if the milestones of the schedule are met, but there will be a lot of testing required. If you do book, you'll have to let us all know how getting on and off goes. Surely they're going to have to have more than 2 entrances/exits to be able to move 5400 people through while in port. I would think the logistics would be a nightmare. Sure glad I don't design these behemouth structures I can't imagine how many elevators, stairways, bars, pools, shops, and restaurants are going to be required. Neither can I imagine having to do the laundry for one day.

Bear in mind the first Genesis ship starts cruising in the fall of 2009. I'd say reservations are still a few months away from starting. At best I wouldn't think they'd start taking reservations until the first ship is named, and that happens the week of April 28 according to the USA Today "name that ship" contest.

For perspective, for the Freedom Of The Seas inaugural cruise they started taking reservations about 15 months out.

Thanks for the input. I was figuring probably 15 to 18 months out would be a good guess since there will probably be a big demand and it will probably take longer to fill a ship of that size too. So, I would think definitely this year for reservations. Maybe late summer. I can't imagine them waiting till next year to try and fill that monster. I do hope they have embarkation better but the worst part of the Liberty was getting off. It was a mad house!!

I'll go on the Genesis ship but not on the first revenue cruise. The prices for that will be high, and the organization will not be up-to-speed. I learned this when I took the Freedom inaugural. For Genesis I'll wait a few months.

And now that I've said that, watch me get sweaty palms and book the first cruise.
