We are going on Liberty next year, and are booking the cruise on Mariner this year.
Has anyone had either cabin #1700 Port Side or #1400 Starboard Side, Deck #10 aft?
The cabin is shaped slightly differently (wider, less deep) and APPEARS to have a much larger balcony. Are my perceptions correct? If this is a bad choice or not available, I'm going for the back bump on deck #9.
Also, is it only me, or does the name slab on the side of Liberty and Freedom look tacky? I always liked the way they placed the ship's name on the bow, but the "plackard-look" name plate looks awful to me.

Not much help on the cabins Jim. I assume you're talking about the corner afts. We have a friend that always books those cabins. They absolutely love them. I believe they even have a pole in the middle of the room. I do seem to remember them saying that the room is wider and shorter.

We had a corner aft on Liberty, deck 7 and it was fantastic. Huge balcony and it also had the big circular opening on the side. It also had plenty of shade and or sunshine and lot's of privacy from the side or above.

I'm kinda like you about the "sign" on the side. Look at it this way, once onboard, we don't have to look at it.

If you want to see something tacky on the Liberty look at the Penguins above the Bridge.
