Going to Mexico in Feb of 05 on our first cruise. Considered Carnival Pride for the water slide for my two girls (11 and 14). I don't think they'll appreciate structured activities (boat camp). Concerned that they will have a good time on the ship.

Wow! I would definietely not worry if the kids are going to have fun. Personally, I think Royal Caribbean's youth program is absolutely the best at sea! The Adventure Ocean and Fantaseas Teen Center both offer great spots for the kids to meet and mingle with new friends and there are so many youth activities planned that they can choose from - boredom should not be an issue.(I assure you - it is not like a typical camp). I have been on the Vision a few times and loved it. (As did my daughter).

As for the slides - They are highly overrated as an activity. Hours of operaton are very limited and often they will shut down and not operate at all if the seas are a little rough or there is any kind of wind (for safety reasons). On most cruises I have seen them operational a few hours total on a 7 day cruise.

I would have to agree with Nancy. Royal Caribbean seems to cater more towards younger adults with just the right combination of freedom and activites. My son loved Royal Caribbean when he was that age and he hates anything organized and would never go to a structured event.

They have a "tweens" club where they can hang out and their counselors are more like "buds" than counselors.

I guarantee they will have tons of fun no matter which ship you choose. They obtain a kind of freedom on a ship that they just can't experience anywhere else.

One thought, with two young ladies their age, you might explore getting walkie talkies for them to each carry at all times. That way if they need you, each other or you need them, you or they are there in a heartbeat.

The last royal cruise I went on (jan03) there where a TON of little kids on the boat and every day you would see the same Cruise Empoyee's walking aboud with a bunch of them doing shows and games....
