taking friends on the majesty at xmas, they have already cruised with ocean village, not impressed, i have just returned from a trip on the jewel of the seas, pretty faultless, my concern, will we be dissapointed with the quality of the majesty considering it's age?

The Majesty is a nice ship. You won't be disappointed as long as you set your expectations correctly, and not try to compare a 13 year old ship with a newer one such as the Jewel.

The Majesty is from the time when RCCL thought calling closets "standard cabins" was a good idea. It never really fooled the public and RCCL has since made their cabins larger. How small? A standard cabin (outside or inside) on the Majesty is 119 square feet including the bathroom and closet (such as it is). If you can swing it, go for a Cat. C on Bridge Deck. We did when we cruised on the Majesty in 1993, and it was a nice cabin with plenty of room - and a balcony.

The public areas of Majesty are quite pleasant. Nice dining room.
