I've shopped on-line for the best cruise prices for a long time. I've had many quotes on cruises, and most of them the cruise price would be the same, but the travel agent would offer credits and ammentities for on board the ship. I've been told that RC does not give credits on certain cruises, and that if the agents give credits, they must be giving up their commissions.

My question is this...how and when do you receive these credits, and why would an agent give up his commission just to book the cruise? I've been offered up to $200. per cabin...is this for real, or are these people trying to rip me off just to get the booking?

Granted, there may be some agents out there that would rebate commission to get a sale. They are breaking the rules and it hurts all Travel Agents in the long run. That being said; I doubt that any agent could afford to give up $200 commission just to get your business. It is most likely the agency you are working with is a very large agency or possibly belongs to a consortium that because of their booking volume can negotiate with cruise lines. It is also possible your agency has group space blocked and the onboard credit is an amenity offered.
Be glad you found such a deal. The onboard credit will be posted to your account on the ship.
