hi as there any one out there been on a transatlantic cruise from ft laurderdale to southampton?
just wondering how the weather is going to be april time.
being european i can guess the temp in spain but the 6 days at sea. anyone know.
We have done the transatlantic the last three years in a row. Weather has bben good for the six days at sea, last two years were sunny and warm 22 - 25 degrees) This year was a little cooler and we had some rain, but it still was warm. Seas mostly calm, some days dead calm.
We sailed from Miami to Lisbon to Barcelona in April of last year. Temperature during the sea days was 75-82 degrees - a lot warmer than Jill's frigid 22-25
I think Sonny did it in April of this year and you should hear from him sometime later today
We sailed from Ft. Lauderdale to Barcelona on April 12th. It was a six day crossing and the seas were fairly calm. The temperature was in the middle sixty, which was a little chilly for us. We really loved our transatlantic cruise.
Yes, our cruise was in April. Note that being Canadian, replying to someone in Europe, the temperatures were in celcius, and are 70 to 80 in Fahrenheit.
The answer to the weather question is nobody knows. We do two transatlantics every year (April and Nov-Dec) and the only sure thing about the weather is that its totally unpredictable. For the past 3 years we have cruised on April to Europe (twice with Princess and once with RCI) with differing results. In 2006 and 2008 our crossing was perfect with warm days and glassy seas. But last year (April 2007) we did an April crossing on the Jewel of the seas that was the roughest weather we have ever had in more than 50 cruises. For three straight days the seas were over 30 feet (10 meters for you Europeans). The problem with West - East crossings is that the weather is traveling the same direction, and in the case of the 2007 crossing, the awful storm followed us all the way to Cobh. Ironically, the folks that left on a similar cruise the day after our cruise had near perfect weather. Its all a matter of luck.
