Hi all. My first cruise was 15 years ago on NCL and I thought the food was amazing! Fast forward 10 years and I go on RCCL for the first time and was surprised that the food seemed to be merely "ok". So I thought that it was perhaps because I was older (wiser??) and perhaps a bit more picky.
Well, we just returned from a Disney cruise and the food blew my mind! I could not believe how amazing their food was! I even liked their chilled soups for which I do not usually care. I spoke to a Disney Review write who said that Carnival's food - believe it or not - was as good if not a tiny bit better than Disney?
What's up with that? I am amazed that RCCL, given it's significant expenditures on being the biggest and best in the industry, has overlooked this crucial element to cruising. Does anyone else feel the same?? (I know that palate is EXTREMELY subjective.)
You'll find some difference between ships. Perhaps the RCCL ship you were on wasn't up to par. I wasn't too pleased with the food on the last ship I was on compared to previous ships. You'll never know unless you try a different ship.
I was overall pleased with the food on Freedom. The dining room food was "good" for the most part, nothing that I'd call "bad", but then again nothing I would consider "excellent". My biggest complaint with RCI is their pizza - it is really not that good and they should take a lesson from Carnival in this area. Carnival has great pizza.
I agree with Dave. I've been all but one of the RCCL ships and never had really good pizza. I still wouldn't change cruise lines if the pizza was better.
In the past I have prefered RC food over carnival. My last cruise, last week was Rccl and it went from better than good lamb, to inedible beef. I was completely sold on RCCL, now I would say I am more flexible.
Katinka, were you on the Vision of the Seas? Did you talk to your head waiter about the bad meat? Did anyone at any other table experience the same trouble?
