It is reported by several travel journalists today that Royal Caribbean President Adam Goldstein says the line will look at retrofitting "older ships" with cabins designed for solo cruisers. Specific ships mentioned include Grandeur Of The Seas and Radiance Of The Seas.
It is obvious the success of the solo cabins on the new Norwegian Epic have not gone unnoticed.
I also think it's a great idea. By not having solo cabins, it's possible that cruise lines are missing out on potential cruisers who are single, widowed, etc., or who simply do not want to cruise with someone.
I think it's a great idea! I do cruise solo simply because my hubby will only go once a year. I'd go every month if my paycheck would let me. I know they don't like singles because they believe we don't spend as much as a couple. However, they've not seen me in the casino I normally lose enough to pay for another cruise, sometimes 2. Singles are a huge market. Now, I'm not saying that there should be swinging single cruises, just a normal cruise that I can go by myself and enjoy the same ammenities that I enjoy with my husband. The ocean, the ports, the food, the snorkeling, the casino, and the marvelous shows!
I think it's a great idea too...I can see more passangers on these ships. penny must agree with ya..If I could afford iot I'd be on a cruise ALL the time
I'd think a single cruiser would be more apt to book a cruise line sponsored excursion, as Penny pointed out...spend more money in the casino, and probably be less demanding on the cabin stewards versus a family of 4 crammed into a cabin with the overhead beds!
Sign me up!
I agree with Penny - My husband doesn't go often, my daughter is getting older - so I'm finding more time for myself. Would be great to go with a friend (or sister) but you don't always want to share a room with them. SIGN ME UP!!!!!!!
While we like to go first class when cruising as a family, and usually get a suite of some sort, if I am cruising solo all I need is a single bed, shower, sink, and toilet. They could put that in 80 or 90 square feet and I'd be fine with it.
Wow, if this holds true that would be good. My parents' schedules conflict so much, that it's difficult for us to take a family vacation. On all my past cruises, I've gone solo. I guess I'll have to keep an eye for updates on this. Hopefully they'll be better priced for solo cruisers as well.
Like Dave, just give me a bed and bathroom, and I'm good.
