Hi, were coming from North Carolina and will be sailing the RCCL Enchantment of the Seas on June 10, and im wondering, do you need the same documents to enter Jamaica/Cayman Islands, as you do the Bahamas, or will we need to get a passport?
Passports were supposed to go into effect January 1, this year. From all the posts I've read, they are still accepting birth certificates and driver's license. Since you have time, I'd suggest getting your passport since they are going to be required next year (unless they change their minds again). We got ours last year when we got home from our cruise. It took about 6 weeks. Whenever they decide to make it mandatory, there will be a rush to obtain them-so wait time may be longer. Enjoy your cruise!!
You will be OK with a picture ID and State certified copy of your birth certificate for this cruise, but I would apply for your passport when you return as the new laws go into effect as of Dec. 31, 2006. You will be required to have the passport then. You can check it out at this site: Passports
