Lisa,
I've had 2 years to calm down ! LOL.
You have NO idea how angry I was when we arrived in baggage claim and my large roll-on was circling the carousel with my clothes hanging out of a big X in the middle of it. I believe steam began literally shooting out of my ears. A gentleman from baggage claim was very helpful and he even took the time to write a "witness" letter on airport stationery for me, including his name and title. I learned a very valuable lesson that day.
Buy Zero Halliburton Luggage !
brneyes, they are usually white heavy duty plastic ties associated with running cable. My husband has a hundred of them. You can pick them up at any hardware store or Home Depot, Lowes. Even K-Mart or Target may carry them. Check the electronics department or ask a salesman where they're located within the store. good luck.
They look amazingly like the twist ties for garbage bags I think LisaP was referencing these to use on luggage as a convenient lock that will deter theft but still allow the TSA people to do their thing if need be.
I know I was referring to the plastic cable ties. These are the strips of plastic that have an open end that the other tab feeds through and is not removable without cutting open.
You can find cable ties at all hardware stores and probably at office supply and computer stores too.

Andrea, do the twist ties for luggage look like the "regular" ties, only much stronger? Are they one color, or different colors?
You know, now that I am thinking of it, I don't know if that would work or not. The reason being, what am I going to cut them with ? I cannot carry sizzors or knife on the plane. When I want to get into my luggage, I don't want to have to wait on our room person to go get something to cut them with, unless you have another suggestion?
I've used both the twist ties that come with trash bags, and cable ties. Depended on what I had handy, and where I was going. The twist ties (garbage bag ones) are definitely much easier as we didn't need anything to cut them with, as brneyes mentioned.
Hmm... Zero Halliburton Luggage. I was actually looking at it the other day. Perhaps it's worth a second look.
