For the passport issue, you can call the passport office in your state & inquire as to how long it will be. Tell them your travel situation as that might help. For the drink question, the only drinks that are included are coffee, tea, juice and water by the glass. Bottled water will cost you unless you take your own. If you drink alot of soda or are taking kids, I would get the card.

As to the passport portion of your question. It takes about 3 weeks to receive your expedited passport. 4-6 weeks standard processing. I don't know what state you are in, but most Post Offices are processing the applications for passports now. Go to www.usps.com/passport/ to help find your nearest one. Or check out travel.state.gov/passport for more information. Happy cruising.

My husband just got one and it took him like 2-3 weeks and I don't think he put a rush on it. We were really surprised.

Drink cards- short cruises I made my kids go without. Last time I let one get it and figured if the other was dying they could share. This time we will be gone 5 days so they will each get one. Hubby and I can go that long without pop. Tea is fine for me, water at dinner, and a drink in the evening.

If you drink enough soda, the $6 per day will be worth it.

We just got off the Liberty and all three of us got the soda card. I felt like it saved us a ton when all was said and done. It was very hot last week and we got the mugs filled up a lot. You don't have to use the mugs, but we just enjoyed using them.

As far as the passport issue, I did my wife and daughter's on a rush and it took only 1 week to get them back. If you don't have one and you are leaving in January, don't even think about not getting an expedited one.

My husband and I sent for our passports in July and did not expedite. They took 11 weeks. My brother paid about twice as much to expedite his (in October, I think) and got it in a week.
