Okay here is the situation, my niece has been on the Carnival ships never RCCL, my sister(her mom) has only been on RCCL, my niece says RCCL is for the older and more sophisticated group and the food is for that type of group and my sister says Carnival is for the younger group that is why the food is more pleasing, this will be my nieces first RCCL cruise I was just wondering if you all think she will enjoy it, now she loves cruising this will be her 4th cruise but 1st with RCCL.

Good, she'll be able to tell you which cruise line she likes the most. If she was on 4 Carvinal cruises she can make a fair comparision. Everyone will have their own opinion. What's good for me, may not be good for you. I always loved spinach, most people don't. However, if I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Royal Caribbean.

Tell your niece that must be why RCI has things such as rock-climbing walls, in-line skating, ice skating, flowriders, and full-sized basketball courts - so Grandma can knock out a couple of pickup games and then get ready for the surfing championships in Hawaii. Oh, and I forgot the H2O Zone and the heart healthy menu at Johnny Rockets!

As for Carnival being for a younger group? Eh, the demographic is not much different than RCI.

The food options and menus on both lines are essentially the same and are not aimed for either older or younger groups. Some things are done better by Carnival, other things are better on RCI.

I think the niece will be surprised at how "young" RCI can be.

I have to agree with Dave.I've been 3 Carnival ships & feel they are similar to RCCL.
I did feel that Carnival aims for the younger crowd & RCCL aims for the middle of the road.
I had fun on both!

Sonny nice "trekkie" answer - are you refering to the Sorrentos' pizza or pizza provided in RCI restaurants / buffets ( I haven't done a cruise yet so I am curious to which you refer).

I didn't try the Sorrento's pizza when on the Freedom. Maybe my co-trekkie Dave did.

Sorrento's on the Freedom is similar in quality to the pizza at the buffet (I don't ever recall pizza being offered on the dining room menu except for the kid's menu). To my tastes all of the RCI pizza is not much better than frozen. The main problem is the crust. RCI uses pre-made pizza crusts which are like cardboard. Carnival and Princess make their pizzas with real dough.

I will give RCI credit for having more unusual toppings - especially at the Jade part of the buffet where one can find pizza with Indian toppings like tandoori chicken (and pepperoni). This didn't hit the spot with me, but I like to keep my pizza more along traditional lines.
