Sonny,

Yeah, I guess it comes down to who paid the freight. Why should someone get credit when the tab was paid by someone else?

True, but the person that paid the tab should get some credit also.

I guess it is a fine line. What if I paid for 25 cruises for my family but never went with them? Should I get diamond plus status yet never have stepped on a cruise ship?

I don't know.....on one hand I can understand it. But on the other hand I think RCI is just trying to boost business by making those who had diamond C&A membership - and then lost it when they reached 22 years old - try hard to get back to those lofty diamond status perks!

Hey! Just wanted to thank you for your help and let you know that I called the C&A club today and signed the four of us up. They told me I had to call my travel agent and let them know our numbers so they can put it toward our cruise in March. What I was wondering is why didn't the travel agent automatically sign us up for the C&A club in the first play. Not good customer service if you ask me.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that in most cases the children were sailing at 3 & 4th passenger rates????

Dave, if you pay for the cruise you have to be on it to have the cruise credit applied. So, if you paid for one of your family members and don't go, that family member would get the cruise credit if they were already a C&A member. Actually, it's quite simple.

Sonny, I just called the C&A because I was honestly shocked at what you said.
In my mind who pays should not be in question but who travelled should be. That is who was a bonafide passenger with their name on the ticket.
The C&A advised as follows. Since my daughter has travelled on over 10 cruises herself - sometimes as a third and sometimes in her own cabin and she has her own C& A number she will continue to be a Diamond member taking that status with her when she leaves home and lives on her own. She will be 22 in March.

It would be different if she had four cruises to her name and lived with us but since she has 15 or 16 or whatever with RCCL she will be a diamond member even when she leaves home.

The who pays argument doesnt really fly in my opinion. I may continue to pay for her when she moves away or even for her family when she has them but the cruise credits will be hers and theirs and not mine.

I agree the C & A program is a good one on the whole and though I have been doing some land based trips in the last year or cruising with other lines like Regent we do enjoy RCCL as well and are booked on a trip from Singapore with them in 2008.

More simply put, they need to review the whole policy. Suppose that magic age was 60 and your membership level was re-set? Hardly fair.

If I have been on over 10 RCCL cruises and enjoyed the perks, then they all magically disappear on birthday #22, I would be more likely to try another cruise line, something that would be hard to consider if I was giving up loyalty perks and special priviliedges to do so.

So it is their policy. Policies can change, and this one should. With all of the exotic new-builds in progress, all cruise lines need to revisit their loyalty programs and make every effort to retain repeat cruisers. RCCL may have the best loyalty program out there at present, but it still could be better.

Emdee..apparently I posted the same time as you did. Glad you found that out because that policy does make more sense. I could not imagine someone losing all their credits and NO ONE getting credit at all for those cruises. Thanks for calling them!

I guess I didn't make it too clear. My daughter lost her diamond plus status, not her credits. She had 3 cruises, but when she booked a cruise on her own, she got my status because she had my address. When we went on our last cruise she didn't get the diamond plus status. She and her husband booked the cruise and have the gold status now. It's their 4th cruise. O.K., let's say your daughter would have been on only 6 cruises with you and booked a cruise on her own. Even though she has only 6 cruises, she would still use your status if she had your address and was under the age of 22. But, if she turned 22 and booked a cruise, she would have a platinum status instead of your diamond status. Seeing as she has been on all of your cruises, she really has the diamond status. I didn't know how many cruises she was really on. Is this more clear?
