Yes, as long as it has the VISA logo in the lower right corner, then you can use it as a credit card. However, keep in mind, that your bank may place a hold on the card for up to three days until it posts.

I agree with the other posters. However, be careful as your bank may put a daily spend limit on the card. The cruise line will run a charge attempt through to cover at least the tips portion of your account and if that is higher than the limit, it might be rejected. I would bring a secondly credit card to give them if the debit card does not work. IF it does then you are not out anything, but if it doesn't and you don't have a "backup" card, then your stuck.

Jim C.-We have used both credit cards and debit cards on the various cruiselines and never run into a problem. Still, we have also learned that a backup credit card is always wise-anywhere you travel!
I've used both too and have not had any issues. I just thought I would mention the limit thing so that it would not ruin their vacation. Although I'm sure there are people out there that refuse to use credit cards or only carry one, I can't imagine going on an international vacation without bringing at least two credit cards.
I have had credit cards denied because the bank wanted me to verify it was me making the charge. I had to call the bank and give them authorization (which is good I guess from a security point of view). Now I call them before we go and give them the dates of where we will be and when to avoid that hassle.

Jim C.-We have had the same verification problems in St. Thomas USVI with credit cards. We have learned to contact our banks a few days in advance to let them know our presence outside the US and to expect foreign charges. It has worked well for us!

Good point. That's one thing I forgot to mention in my earlier post, and this goes for everybody. Whenever you are about to go on a cruise or any international travel, make sure you call your credit card company and/or financial institution to let them know that you will be travelling out of the country, and make sure you give them the dates and where you are going.

Yes I call the credit card company & let them know exactly where I will be & for how long. As far as the debit card goes I would not use it again out of the country. Some of the charges I made did not show up for 2 months & it was a good thing that I checked my account often since I had to add money in order to cover those charges. Just took too long for the charges to show up so I prefer the credit card.
