i am going on a 4 night cruise- one of the days we are in the bahamas for the whole day- another words, probably not dining on the ship- do ewe still have to tip the waiters for that day?

Tipping is a very subjective topic. Some cruisers will tip at the beginning of the cruise: they know that the staff work for tips (waiters/cabin attendants), so they will pre-pay the tips. Some folks pay at the end of the cruise according to their service, either in cash or on your SeaPass card which will be paid to the person. You don't tip at each meal on the ship. So even if your are NOT dining one day, you can calculate your tips for the other days. But usually folks tip for the whole cruise. RCCL won't do anything to you if you don't tip.

Hi Younique, and welcome to cruise-chat.

When you say you won't be dining on the ship the day you're in Nassau, are you referring to skipping dinner only, or breakfast and lunch, as well? The reason I ask is that the waiters work these meals too, even at the buffet, so I would keep that in mind.

But, I can also read your question a second way...and that is whether the ship's dining is open on a port day. Please be assured that it is. They might close the dining room for lunch, but a buffet will be available.

I look at it this way: The tips are for service rendered by your cabin steward and your waiter and his assistant at you dinning room table. You don't have to tip anyone else if you don't want to. I usually go to the Guest Relations Deck and request vouchers for the tips. It makes it easy. Believe me, you will get outstanding service. Tips are their main source of income, and they work very hard to please you.

we wont be dining at all that day, not even breakfast, but the way i hear it is these 'tips' are mandatory. if thats so shouldnt it be called a 'service charge', or a 'fee'. just wondering

The tips for your waiter is for your main dining room meals. You don't tip every day and every meal. You tip you waiter on the last night of the cruise.
