I was wondering on a ship which side is the better side Port side or Starboard side I mean for like when you are coming into a port that way you can see coming in from your balcony, or does it really matter. Our cabin was or the port side this past cruise and I enjoyed the view.

#2 can you request either side?

You can definitely request on which side of the ship you want your cabin to be. The challenge is knowing which side of the ship will face land most often. Some itineraries are easier than others. For example, a southbound Alaska cruise will have most of the land on the port side of the ship. In the Caribbean, it depends on the itinerary and from which direction the ship will be sailing.

Sandy is correct here. The side of the ship that docks varies from port to port. So its a crap shoot on which side would offer the better view. And in most cases, both sides have a nice view. So I offer that it truly doesn't matter. Even on the Alasaka cruises you are traveling through the passage and have land on both sides of the ship to see. I wouldn't worry about it.
