My family of 5 is scheduled to leave for Puerto Rico June 14 going on a 7-day out of San Juan. We DID order passports 14 weeks ago, but they never arrived. Tried to expedite today, with no luck. We do, however, have birth certs which should be enough. Called RCCL just to be sure today, and found out my 17 yr. old will NOT be allowed on the ship without a picture I.D. Yikes, unfortuately no time to get one. Anyone have experience getting on a ship w/o picture I.D.? Should I chance it or just cut my loses now and cancel. I can still get airfare refunded, but not for cruise. Any ideas out there?
My suggestion is the same as Cruise Fanatic's. I know that non-drivers in my state can get an official state ID from the same office that issues driver licenses. I don't know if they are issued same day, but perhaps it can be expedited.
shawnal-Your profile doesn't indicate your residence area so I suggest you also consider contacting your Town Clerk's office and your Congressman/Senator's office for assistance. In the past I have learned these sources to be very helpful! My best wishes to you!
You can get a passport in as few as three days...if you are willing to pay for it. Your travel agent can give you the name of the agency in your area that will do this. It will cost at least $200, but that is far less than you will lose if you cancel your trip.
Just a thought...if you have already applied for passports you may not have the documents you need to reapply through an expiditer...but you said you have birth certificates?
Cruise Fanatic is also correct. You get your divers licence the same day you apply so I would think that the State ID card would be issued the same day also.
You have a couple of options...so no need to cancel your trip.
OR...just leave your daughter at home and take the rest of the family. I mean how much trouble could a 17 year old teenager get into when left alone at home for a week/
I am still waiting for my sons passport but he is only 12. Find out were your closes passport processing center. Make sure you bring a extra copy of her birth cert. I belive you can get it on the spot. travel.state.gov is the web site you can check status of the passport and e mail them also that it within 14 days of your trip.
Don't try and call because that is useless. I been trying to reach someone about my sons passport for weeks.
You may have to drive a long distance depending on where you live. My closes is Chicago a 4 hour drive. Good luck and don't miss your trip!!!

SailorJack this was true at one time, but even the expediters cannot get it in as little as 3 days. The passport office is so backed up this year, that even the passports that were taking 4-6 weeks to get are taking excess of 12 weeks and those who pay the expediting fees still have to wait close to 4-6 weeks.

I should have realized that. But not to worry, I have a backup plan. The wait for a Canadian passport is still only three days, so....
