Hey guys - Here's a question:
On our group cruise we will have a couple of kids who will be over the 17 year mark. My question is this - The RC programs for kids go up to 17 and the kids can't go to the night clubs where alcohol is served until 21 - am I correct? What do the 18-20 year olds do? Are they able to still hang out at "Fuel" and in the "living room", just not be involved in the RC programs or are they allowed in the night clubs, just carded if they try to buy a drink?

They can go to the bars and nightclubs, they just can't drink booze. Sometimes a bar will have an age restriction after a certain hour - usually the disco doing something like "nobody under 21 allowed after midnight".

I don't know about the rules for Fuel or the other places under the auspices of the youth program.

Hi Ohio,

I have read somewhere and I do not know which cruise line it was (but I read it very recently) that it is possible for parents to sign a waiver that would allow kids under 21 to drink while on the ship). I just can't remember which line it referred to). Again, they can enter the bars, just not drink. The music, the comedians are great. They might actually enjoy it more - in a dry mood.

RCI used to allow 18 year olds to buy beer and wine with a waiver, but that policy changed in 2006 for ships leaving from U.S. ports. They do still allow it for Europe and South American cruises. For U.S. departures it is 21 for everything and no exceptions.

We had my nephew and his 20 year old daughter with us on the Independence a couple of weeks ago. She was allow to be with us in the Labyrinth, but she couldn't have alcohol.

Our daughter was 18 on her first cruise and she found plenty to do. We hardly ever saw her.

Lots of dancing available. My daughter did the club stuff, just no alcohol. Also she loved the "game show" activities and had more fun attending the quest and so on with other young people she met, mostly in the pool/hot tub area during the day.
