Enchantment-Electrical Problems

On another message board, there was talk of electrical problems on a recent November sailing on Enchantment...no A/C...and skipping Key West on another sailing....any news my insider friends ??

We got off the ship yesterday. Overall it was a fun trip. Since this was our 6th cruise, we had high expectations from prior ships.

The ship was having a few problems due to some electrical issue. The AC did not work on the first day. Started working the next morning. We were in a JS, cabin 8110. Our friends were just up the hall and had no problems with the AC.

Our cabin stewart was ok. In the past we never ran out of ice. On this cruise, had to call. On the Sovereign, Serenade and Majesty we were brought extra ice buckets. The TV remote kept loosing it's program. I called to find out how to program it, no-one showed up. Our shipmates recieved there Crown Anchor gift, we did not. The guest service counter got them for us. The cabin was kept clean and neat, just not as good as prior cruises.

The ship still cannot get up to full speed. This caused our ports to change around. This would not have been a problem, if we were notified. Several people on this board, were sent e-mails. Our 4 cabins did not recieve anything. Any excersions booked thru the cruise line were fine, but stuff we booked on our own was messed up. Wish we would have know. Had a party booked in Key West for friday, we had to cancel.

The Food was great overall. (It must have been, gained 10 lbs.) Our waiters were awsome. The timing could have been better on bringing out food, don't think it was the waiters. The windjammer was pretty good. Crowded as always, but overall nice. The bars were awsome, the bartenders were always on the ball. Got to know a few, and the drinks were awsome. Room service was on the ball as always. Our morning coffee was always on time.

The entertainment was pretty good. I love the island band up on the pool deck. Bolaros nightly band was great as well. They had the Nelson Brothers which several of our party went to. They really enjoyed it. They did play some on the last night in the center lobby. That was a nice touch.

Overall it was a nice cruise. Looking forward to the next one.

Hey Everyone,

Getting kind of worried about the cruise... There have been some other posts on a different chat site about electrical problems on the Enchantment and how the ship is traveling slower, ports are being changed and days at the ports are being shortened. I decided to call Royal Caribbean about an hour ago and they did confirm that this stuff is true I called twice and was told both times that the problem is trying to be fixed, and between the cruise this week and ours there is a small break and they will be trying to fix it then. They did say there is a chance it will be dry docked and in that case, everyone would get a refund and a possible discount coupon or if there is another ship big enough and available they may move us to that one. I was told that hopefully they will know one week before our cruise and notify people by email or phone call, which means we should hear something by the 7th. She also said worse case scenerio, everyone goes on with their plans, arrives at port and they decide not to take sail!!! How much would that Suck!!!! I am hoping that this gets fixed and we have smooth sailing, I really need this trip.... Maybe if people start calling RC they will try to fix it soon...

Getting kind of worried about the cruise...

There is no good to come of worry. With the cruiseline facing possible dry dock, expense and fare reimbursement, I'm betting if it can be fixed between sailings they'll spare no expense in getting it addressed and hopefully corrected in time for your cruise.

Let RCI do the worrying, just go have a great cruise. Stick with this board for good advice and avoiding the negatives and people who dwell on them. It's a great place with good and kind people.

Neil, your advice is as always very good. But for those of us with an impending cruise on Enchantment, the concern is real. Changing ports id RCI's right, but we planned ours to visit my brother in Key West, and skipping or shorting that port would put a very dark cloud on our trip. I understand that lots of Negative Nelly's can be overwhelming, but I promise you I will have a good time NO MATTER WHAT !

I think that the itinerary changes were made completely without regard for the pleasure of the passengers. We have had our Christmas and New Years cruises booked for over a year. I can understand a few tweeks but to actually put us in Key West for Christmas instead of at Sea is very disappointing. They charge out the butt for the Christmas crusises and then you aren't in a place warm enough to do crap. We just found out from our travel agent today.

I wouldn't be upset if they hadn't screwed up the whole purpose of going on the very high priced Christmas cruise. That purpose is CHRISTMAS AT SEA, not docked in a port where it isn't that warm and everything is closed including the casino on board.

the weather in key west will be fine. highs are in the high 70's and low 80's . sounds good to me.

Doesn't sound good to me... My point is that they charge a premium for the Christmas cruise with certain assumptions that you will get what you paid for and expect. A 100% mark-up in price should cause RCCL to realize that travelers expect a little more on a holiday itinerary and the changes need to take into account the day that the holiday falls on.

Lucas, I can understand you are upset, my brother lives in Key West, and I am going the cruise before you, so I am very concerned with our itinerary, he has taken time off work to spend with us when we dock, if we dock there....I don't believe teh RCI makes these decisions without regard for their well paying customers, rather they are trying their best in a bad situation for all. Alot of businesses will be open just because a ship will dock, that is alot of extra tourists. It obvious when you are in Key West, and a ship docks, they are a tourism town and exist only on that. I hope you find a way to enjoy your cruise.....I promise to leave something for you drink....LOL.
