Internet Access in Cabins??

Does anyone know if you can get internet access in your cabin or must you still use the computers on board for this? If you were to bring your laptop how would that work? Thank you. Lynn

There are typically internet 'hot spots' on the ship where you can get on the internet. You can take your own with you and use it, but I know when we were on Carnival last year we were not able to get internet in our room. Check with the internet cafe or the pursers desk to see where the 'hot spots' are.

I know that the Freedom Of The Seas has shipwide wireless internet. I don't think all RCCL ships are similarly outfitted. I got a good signal in my cabin on the Freedom. In fact, I got a good signal everywhere I went with my laptop.

On Explorer there is wireless and they tell you it may or may not work in the cabins. In the cabin it worked well and on the balcony it was spotty.

The rate was $0.50 per minute or you could buy packages.

We were on Splendor in April and it did not have any wireless.

We were on Radiance last year, and they were just completing their wireless system. We will be on Navigator in 3 weeks, and they have wireless. We've always brought our laptop and purchased the unlimited use package. I believe that the cost is around $100, but with 4 and at times 5 of us using it, it was much cheaper.

My understanding is RCCL has discontinued the unlimited internet package.

We will be sailing on the Freedom. So I'm wondering if the internet hook up is in our room, do we still have to pay so much per minute for using it, if we choose to use it?

There is no hookup - it is all wireless and you need to set up a shipboard internet account to access it. You have to sign up in the internet cafe on one of their desktop computers, then you can use your laptop. They have a base charge per minute - I think it was 50 cents. Or you can buy a package of minutes which cuts the price down a bit.
