I'm excited for you that you're planning another cruise, and that you plan to propose. It will be a memorable vacation for both of you.
1. Since you are a past cruiser, you should have, or should get, a Crown & Anchor number from RCI. You or your travel agent can do this, if you don't have the number already. When you book your next cruise, make sure RCI puts your Crown & Anchor number into the booking. This will allow them to give you a couple of coupon books on your first day onboard the ship. The booklets have savings certificates in the gift shop, in the casino, maybe some free internet time. As for upgrades, that's doubtful. You could always book the room as a "guarantee" if that's available, and hope for an upgrade, but it doesn't always happen. Otherwise I suggest you just pay for the cabin you want to sail in.
2. No upgrade just because you're planning to propose. Spring for a better cabin for this special occasion.
3. Bringing your own alcohol onto the ship is not allowed.
On Freedom of the Seas, before one of the show, the cruise director announced a passenger had entered a contest and won first prize. He called the passenger up and handed him a bottle of champagne and flowers and the microphone. The passenger then walked up to his girlfriend and got down on one knee and proposed!!! It was great.....why don't you try working something out with the cruise director to make it special???
Taking our first RC cruise in November. Have gone on Carnival 5 times. We experienced a really special proposal on the Carnival Triumph. They had a passenger talent show. They introduced a passenger and allowed his girlfriend to come on stage so he could sing to her the song he supposedly rehearsed for the show. The audience was delighted and the girlfriend shocked when he sang a song he wrote especially for her in which the marriage proposal was in the lyrics. SHE HAD NO CLUE.
They were given a bottle of champagne, it was filmed on the keepsake video log and they were the celebrities of the ship for the rest of the cruise. We took a picture with them because we were all singing the song throughout the cruise. This was 4 years ago and our whole family still remembers the refrain. Don't know if RC does talent shows or not. Just a cute idea if you're talented. Whatever you do I'm sure it will be special!! Congratulations and I hope she says "YES'!!!
on our second rc cruise we used our crown and anchor number to get a coupon book, a couple of picture frames and an invite to a cocktail party for past guests...to cut the bar tab get a small bottle or 2 (pint or half pint) in port at the duty free place...you can bring it back on in your pocket, the plastic caps dont set off the metal dectectors and i've never seen anyone get patted down. even if they find it just play stupid the worst they will do is take it away till the last day..its a pain to have to get a soda and go to the cabin to doctor it up but it will save you a big bartab.
