What time would you start driving?

I am set to depart Baltimore on Saturday February 19th on the Enchantment. I live in NY and have decided not to go the day before (I may change my mind if the weather forecast changes). Map Quest say 4:30 minutes for the trip. I think they start to board at about 11 am. Since it is a Saturday I do not expect that much traffic. Oh the things that go through your mind Like a flat tire or a break down. The ship leaves at 4 pm. Do you think leaving at 5 am is a bit extreme?
Thanks Friends,
Alfred

I'd do the same thing. Getting out of NYC can be challenging even under the best of circumstances. It just takes a breakdown in a tunnel or on the bridge to back up traffic for hours.

I'd rather be at the cruise terminal, wishing I'd had more sleep, than stuck on the road, wishing I'd had less sleep.

You can never leave too early, but you could leave too late.

When we took that cruise in January they weren't letting anyone on board until after 1PM. Perhaps it had something to do with the drug bust they had (we found out about this later). You'll be too excited to sleep much anyway so you might as well get on the road early. Hope you have a good cruise - the weather will be better than it was for us.

I'll add another vote for leaving early. In fact, I'd have all of your luggage in one place ready to go so that you don't waste any time in the morning. And, you're very wise to keep your eye on the weather. Also, have some alternate routes planned in case you run into any delays along the way. Most importantly, enjoy your cruise!

Thank you all for the input. Early it is going to be. Doc dance here!!!

I would leave early. Even at this time of the year, the NJ Turnpike just south of Exit 8A where it merges from 5 lanes to 3 can be all backed up for miles. I know this because I live in that area. At the time you're thinking about leaving though, that shouldn't be a problem.
