HI, Is Royal Caribbean charging the fuel surcharge at this time?. According to their web page if the fuel increases beyond $65.00 a barrel they may charge you. However I have cruised with them when the barrel of the Texas oil was at $80.00 and I wasn't charge the fuel cost. I understand that the price of crude oil is $105.00 a barrel at this time.
According to the RCI website, the surcharge would be $10/guest/day for the first and second guests in a stateroom up to a maximum of $140/guest/cruise. Third and fourth guests in the same stateroom would be charged $5/day/guest up to a maximum of $70/guest/cruise. So, if four guests were in a stateroom, the total surcharge for a 7-night cruise would be $210.
I haven't seen it announced....yet. I don't know how long contracts for oil run. If they got a good one when oil was at $40/bbl, then they should be ok for a while. I'm sure it will be inevitable, though.
I think you are right Sonny, the cruiselines are putting it into their pricing......
I've been watching a 14 day Hawaii round trip on Holland America and they just jumped the price $100 across the board.....I had better book it now for October:-)
All sites say that they reserve the right to charge; however they are not yet.
We are sailing with Celebrity next month, and they have not advised us that they will be tacking on extra $$$.
One thing to note regarding the fuel surcharge is that they may add it or remove it. We booked a cruise once and due to the price of oil at the time it was added to our booking. By the time we cruised the price of oil had dropped and we received an on board credit. It was a pleasant surprise.
