Our captain on Voyager last March had said that the new ships would probably be more along the lines of larger Freedom Class ship, and not Oasis class in size. When friends ask, I always described the Freedom size ships as Voyager class on steriods. Sounded then like the Sunshines were going to follow that vein. Guess we'll have to wait and see. BTW, are there ANY ship-building yards in the US? I know there used to be during WWII, but I wonder if they're still around anywhere.
I believe there's a defence shipyard in Alabama. But the last ship build in the U.S. that I know of was in 1950. The ship was the Independence and was built by Bethlehem steel. The jobs I was refering to were anything to do with the components. You would think there's something needed that is made in America.
Newport New, VA has built many legendary ships. They are still building Navy ships and subs. I believe one of Norwegian Cruise Lines ships they put in Hawaii was built there. I can't remember if it was the Pride of America.
